Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

A sensory support or sensory strategy is any equipment or technique that increases or decreases sensory input to help a student focus and learn. I have a class full of sensory seekers who need sensory input in order to stay seated for more than 10 seconds. Sensory breaks are written into most of my student's Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs) and are a vital support to meet their educational goals and needs.

The goal of using sensory strategies is that they will help the student to reach the level of alertness they need to attend and focus on their learning in class.

Most of my students benefit from swinging, jumping, and other sensory materials. By providing them with a compression weighted vest, weighted balls, and other sensory supports in the classroom, they will be able to safely increase their learning potential by meeting their sensory needs, while also keeping them safe!
