Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"One child, one teacher, one book, one pen can change the world." ~ Malala Yousafzai. This quote speaks volumes and is the inspiration behind this project proposal. One resource and just one opportunity can make a huge difference for my students and their learning experience.

My incredible NYC middle school students come from low-income households and attend a public school in the Bronx.

They are from diverse ethnic backgrounds and many lack access to computers and Internet at home. A large portion of our students are in the lowest one-third in both NYC and NYS for literacy and math, which creates obstacles in their quest for high achievement on school and state assessments. They look for ways to make personal connections between their school and home lives. In the science classroom, students need ways to thrive and find inspiration through interactive labs and group projects. As a school community, all of the teachers truly try to work together to provide our students with the tools and skills to grow and prosper into successful adults.

My Project

With a classroom laptop, we will have instant access to relevant research for scientific reports and opportunities for virtual labs and activities. Through our high-level scientific experiments and investigations, students will be able to use the laptop for current background research and information that can help them develop their scientific explanations. Virtual labs and Internet access can provide means to show media clips and experiments in an instant. This will not only enhance their science experience but inspire and engage them to see how science exists in their daily lives. By helping to facilitate this connection, students can be motivated to learn and improve their performance on assessments and projects. By providing exciting activities in science, I can provide my students with opportunities to develop their literacy and math skills as well. In our technology driven society, there are no limits to what computer access can do for the learning process of my students.

Every day when my students step foot into my science classroom, I want them to feel inspired and excited to experience activities and lessons that can relate to who they are both inside and outside of school.

A classroom laptop will allow them to explore, to experience unique virtual labs, watch content-related videos and search for educational information in an instant! One "cool" moment, one "WOW" experience can change a student's outlook on learning and pave the way for a prosperous future.
