My Students

I am a first-grade and reading teacher in a wonderful school in Wisconsin. My students are very special, and I just love going to school every day to see the sparkle in their little 5- to 8-year-old eyes. I also get to connect with students of various ages during and after school. I truly have the most special job in the world and treasure every day with my students. My students love to read, pretend and imagine. They are curious and love to learn. We all participate in learning every day. They love so many fun activities throughout the year and our hope is to add even more. My students are amazing.

My Project

I am super excited about playing in the sand with my students! Every child loves to play in the sand. Playing and making letter sounds in the sand is a multi-sensory experience that locks in learning. I have been trained to use using the Orton-Gillingham Method of Instruction with struggling readers, and this training has been fantastic. It truly works wonders with all of my students. And, it is definitely the best program that I have ever worked with when trying to help students who really struggle severely or who show dyslexic tendencies. I am requesting some fun manipulatives because this program is all about hands-on learning in a multi-sensory way.

Teaching students by playing in the sand and using multi-sensory strategies, in a very well-researched way will lock in learning for my students, and it is so much fun!

I am requesting 11 packs of two-toned, weighted sand for students to practice their letters and letter sounds. These are tools that we will use every single day in so many ways. These sand trays will be the perfect perfect for my students to use to have a very successful and fun learning experience. Thank you so much for supporting our project and our classroom. We really appreciate it.
