Teacher professional development. I need to attend a conference to enhance my professional learning and develop new strategies for teaching to the Common Core standards. <profdevpilot>
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"If a child can’t learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn." -Ignacio Estrada
I strive to teach my children with new, engaging strategies each day. This project will give me a large toolbox of strategies to teach my wide range of little learners.
Good teachers are lifelong learners.
My recent move to first grade teaching has me learning new things every day. I am a seventh-year teacher, but a first-year first grade teacher! I love teaching reading, writing and math to my little learners.
For six years, I taught kindergarten. The move to first grade has been simultaneously the most challenging and the most rewarding experience I have had professionally. I learn something new each day, and I would not trade it for the world.
I hold myself to high standards of teaching and professional learning, and I am constantly looking for new ways to keep my teaching "fresh." I see so much success through small-group, center-based instruction in all subject areas, and I am particularly focused on maximizing my instruction during these times. I feel that although I do small groups each day, I can always use some work on maximizing my time to meet the needs of all students, including advanced children and those requiring interventions.
My Project
My students are really beginning to read and write at higher levels, and I am seeing their math skills develop exponentially. This is why the National Conference on Reading, Writing, Math and More is exactly what I need to kick my teaching up a notch!
I plan on learning how to support my students in our very rigorous writing curriculum. I particularly hope to learn how to support the struggling writers in my classes and how to assist them with developing a sense of writing independence and success.
I am hoping to take a lot of comprehension teaching skills home with me. I know that my higher-level students are delving into comprehension, and I need to learn how to best help them understand what they're reading!
The math sessions will teach me how to build early numeracy skills at all levels of proficiency. These skills will all be used daily in my classroom!
The opportunity to attend this conference will be once-in-a-lifetime for me.
The strategies taught will not only enhance my teaching for the upcoming year but for years to come. I believe that attending this conference will allow me the opportunity to develop teaching strategies to help my students through small group instruction while also giving me fresh teaching ideas for my new grade level. This will help me better meet the needs of my students. I can not imagine a better reward!
