Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach in a 4th-grade, dual-language, integrated co-teaching classroom in a diverse school located in NYC.

My students need sensory items to be able to regain their focus on their tasks, calm down if/when they are frustrated and/or upset, and promote their fine motor skills and eye-hand coordination.

Items such as play-doh, weighted plushies, sensory balls, and squishy items go a long way when it comes to helping students with sensory diet needs to be able to take a break, recompose themselves, and then come back to rejoin the class - with focus and calm. This is why I'd like to use these items to create a sensory menu for them to choose what they feel they need during moments when they feel dysregulated.
