This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

A child educated only at school is an uneducated child. -George Santayana Much like the beloved cartoon character "Annie" most of my students have lived in New York their entire lives and never left the Bronx. It is important that they get to experience the great city of New York!

My students are special people who have overcome enormous obstacles in their short lives.

I work in a day treatment facility for students who are emotionally disturbed. Most of them are victims of abuse or neglect and are in the foster care system. I teach in a very low income area of New York City where all of my students are living in poverty and qualify for free lunch. Resources are very few and far between. Despite all of this, my class has managed to stay focused and motivated. They are extremely bright, funny, and excited learners who love coming to school.

My Project

My students will have the opportunity not just to see an amazing show, but to travel to Manhattan. Most of my students have never left our borough and this trip would allow them to explore Manhattan and get to see the iconic Lincoln Center. It is important that they get to see their city and all it has to offer.

One of the coolest things about living in NYC is getting to go to incredible shows in beautiful theaters.

None of them have had this opportunity yet and I would love to help take their first real bite out of the Big Apple.
