I started off as a volunteer here, fell in love with the school and kids and knew I was meant to be here to help these incredible kids reach their goals. My students are amazing! They go through a rigorous audition process to get in to the magnet school. Once chosen, they students work their tails off to keep above an 85 to remain in the major.
This year, this major learned to draw and sew, created dresses for orphans and children in need, had Charleston Fashion Week founder visit, had CFW emerging designer finalist come speak about the collection she presented at fashion week this year, visited the theater department at the College of Charleston, met local designers, viewed the textile collections at the Charleston Museum, learned about the process of printing fabrics with sublimation at Vapor Apparel, saw industrial production for safety gear at Grand Forrest and began a on-going collaboration with the Occupational Therapy students at MUSC.
These C/F Design students are designing a line of clothing for two special young ladies in Charleston who have limited mobility. My students have big dreams and even bigger hearts!
My Project
This is a trip these children will never forget. They will get to study their passions (costume and fashion design) in Fashion District of NYC, see real costumes of Broadway Shows, visit costume designers, get inspired at FIT, Moma and the Met...IT IS AN AMAZING ADVENTURE FOR THESE KIDS!
This incredible trip includes our round trip airfare from Charleston to NYC; a bus to move us around NYC; a 24/7 personal tour guide (he even stays in our hotel in case we have an emergency!); our hotel rooms; breakfast and dinner each day; admission to several museums; a Broadway show; several behind-the-scenes tours; all the related taxes and fees plus the trip is completely and expertly planned for us.
We did a shortened version of the trip last year that was wonderful and this expanded version will be even better!
