My Project

Hello, My name is Victoria Hurtado and I am a psychiatric social worker in North Hills, Ca. Over 90% of our students and their families live at or below the poverty line. As a psychiatric social worker, I help foster academic success by providing social and emotional support to better the mental health of our students. Every month we promote a different social-emotional related issue through events and activities on campus.

February is Teen Dating Violence Prevention month, and we would like to have an event that generates awareness about the characteristics of healthy/unhealthy relationships as well as promotes self-love.

One of the best ways we have found to engage students is to offer item giveaways. For example, we can distribute stickers and bracelets for students participating in an activity where they identify one thing they love about themselves or can identify one characteristic of healthy relationships. The easel is a great way to visually show students' participation in the activity. We're hoping to use the rocks and chalk markers by having students express their thoughts/feelings about relationships and self-love through art. Tattoos will be part of our self-care table. The resources listed for this project will help engage students by attracting them to our fun and interactive tables where we intend to also provide much-needed information on teen dating violence.
