Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

I service many students in the school that I am assigned. Over the past eight years, I have worked with students that encountered many challenges (both resource and general education). From students coming to school with dirty clothes to students whom haven't eaten the night before are some of the major challenges that we face at my school just to mention a few. Students having material to support good hygiene would be a great way for both boys and girls to feel more confident, successful and secure in this time in their life. Along with snacks if students haven't eaten breakfast, no money for snack, or maybe have nothing to eat at home. Which plays a vital part in the instructional day.

This fall, I would love to provide hygiene items (shirts, pants, deodorant, sanitary napkins, toothpaste, underwear, etc.) for both boys and girls at my school who are in need.

The items will be stored in the locked cabinet in my room and will be easily accessible to them when in need. It will make them feel more self-worthy and more confident. Also, snacks for the students will encourage them to work hard and stay focused on instruction which will increase positive behaviors.

My students deserve the opportunity to attend school without feeling unmotivated, unworthy, ashamed, and hungry. These feelings lead to attendance issues and failing grades. As an Educator, I am trying to prevent it from happening. My students are trying really hard in learning and they deserve to come to school with good hygiene and the reassurance of something to eat if needed. We have to keep in mind that some of these issues are beyond the student's control.
