Our school is a Title I institution located in Oklahoma City. It serves a multicultural population of students and their children. The library program develops research skills, fosters independent reading, encourages exploration and creativity through STEAM-related projects, and facilitates cooperation through the game and team-building activities.
My student patrons are resourceful, resilient, and reflective readers who are raising their children to be the same.
Together, we are hoping that your generosity and support will help turn our obstacles into accessible opportunities!
Now that Covid-19 vaccinations are up, the Center for Disease Control is predicting that there will be an increase in sexually transmitted diseases over the course of the summer. In order to combat this matter, I would like to offer my students an alternative to the infamous Hot Girl Summer. A Self-Care Summer is about self-love, self-care, and self-respect. These materials will make a difference in the student's learning because they will learn (through the characters in the stories) how to make sound decisions; and, develop empathy for those who do not.
“If I didn’t define myself for myself, I would be crunched into other people’s fantasies for me and eaten alive." - Audre LordeThe ultimate goal of this project is to teach our students that it is better to accept themselves rather than look for acceptance and validation from their peers.
