Self-Care Station in the Freshman Academy Building
Help me give my students personal hygiene items for a self-care station in the classroom. Items are to help them get through the day emotionally and physically.
I want my students to be able to focus on learning. To help with this, we would like to be able to provide them with items they may need in an emergency situation. If a girl starts her cycle at school, I want her to know she can come to my room and grab what she needs from the station. If a boy is dealing with body odor after gym class or any other time, I want him to know I have what he needs in the station. I have been asked before for items when they face a hair tie breaking, they feel as if they need a mask, they forgot to brush their teeth, they have a stain on their shirt after lunch, chapped lips, or they just need lotion. We want to make sure they feel comfortable, safe, and provided for at school so they can focus on learning.
Our high school houses a diverse population of 6-12 graders with around 600 students total.
The majority of the students fall in the economically disadvantaged category qualifying for free and/or reduced lunch, and many of our students of age work to help support their household. They may not have the ability to have these items at home and feel embarrassed so we would like to have the option for them to take what they need to be more self-confident and comfortable.
