A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
My students face daily challenges that could impede their ability to flourish in school. Through their dedication and perseverance, they have shown that they are hungry for expanding their artistic horizons through music and arts.
According to United Way statistics, their neighborhood has one of the lowest per capita income as well as the highest number of single mothers living in poverty.
The area surrounding our school has the highest number of known gang members and a significant number of violent and drug-related incidents.
Their family dynamic is very strong and they support each other through thick and thin. They deserve the opportunity to experience every educational opportunity possible.
My Project
Social-Emotional Learning is a critical part of my students' success. Having a variety of counseling books to read and explore will help my students make connections and see they are not alone. Relationality: The Real-to-Life Game of Relationships will help them develop healthy relationships. The Talk-It-Out board game will encourage healthy communication skills and Equipped for Life game will prepare them for life's responsibilities as they grow toward adulthood.
SEL can help students better understand and identify their emotions; it can help them develop empathy, increase self-control and manage stress.
It also helps them build better relationships and interpersonal skills that will serve them in school and beyond, helping them succeed as adults.
