Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My Title I, level I (lowest 25%) Specific Learning Disabled (SLD), Emotionally/Behavioral Disabled (EBD) high school students are in ICU! Yes, some students are enrolled in Intensive Reading Plus! More than 90% of the student population qualifies for free and/or reduced-price lunch. Approximately 80% of the students live in single-family homes.

These 9th and 10th-grade remedial readers attend a Title I school.

There is a negative stigma to Intensive Reading or Intensive Reading Plus classes. Some have Individual Education Plans, while others really struggle to remain proficient in English and Math. For these students inclusion into positive worlds will not only help to close the achievement gap but put much needed academic confidence into the hands of students.

My Project

This intensive reading plus class is in need of a printer. Many students simply do not have access at home. In order to use their researched based reading program the students are required to use a headset with a microphone. The students Lexile level will improve two grade levels if done with fidelity. It is extremely important that these 9th and 10th graders improve in their reading skills and fluency. The composition books are used in class to support the program in the small group and independent areas for "Do Now" activities and reading prompt logs. The outcomes will be phenomenal if this project comes to life!
