My Students

The students I will be teaching this year, range in age from 5-11. Like all children, they love to move, sing, dance and create. They are ready to embrace a new experience in the music classroom!

I believe this is true, and we see it every day. Children learn how to cooperate, care, lead, follow, and be the best person they can be every time they play and work with others.

My Project

This year my students will enter a new music classroom. The bulletin boards are ready with inviting colors and borders. Instruments have been taken out of storage and given homes for easy access. The xylophones and other barred instruments, as well as the drums, look great.

The music room needs to be a magical inviting place that creates the opportunity to visit other lands.

These 8 African baskets will provide that visual sense of being in Senegal, Tanzania and other African countries. Plus, our small instruments, scarfs and wrist ribbons need a proper accessible home! Students will also be learning about these countries while learning their dances, songs and drumming styles. This will help them understand these countries better. When we understand a country and learn their ways, we tend to be more accepting of the people. These baskets will sit atop my 6 short bookshelves which will make it easy for students to access the instruments, scarfs and ribbons while being fully engaged in our movement, song and improvisations. Classrooms need to be inviting and set the mood for the learning. Please help me provide this authentic visual environment for my students as they sing, dance and move in music class!
