My Students

Science is about experience; it is about questioning the world, doing experiments, and seeing results. For students around the country they experience science on their own by participating in science fairs. My students have never had the opportunity to actively participate in a science fair.

I teach in an urban school in Pennsylvania.

My 9th grade students are amazing and imaginative, but they live in an impoverished neighborhood and lack basic supplies. I want every student to be able to participate in a school science fair but I fear many students would not be able to afford the supplies needed to present their experiments. Our school is unable to provide materials for every student.

My Project

Every student deserves a chance to present their science experiment. I am asking for your help in providing presentations boards for students who are unable to afford materials. A digital camera is essential to presenting experimental data and results for experiments done at home. Participating in a science fair will help my students relate science to their own lives and find topics that truly interest them. Science fairs are an opportunity for students to be creative and design an experiment that is unique to them. Creating a lifelong love of science is my goal and allowing students to personalize science is essential. You can help them realize how amazing science can be. For students who love science, science fairs continue to state wide and national levels. Each fair often provides scholarships and money for college. Helping my students in 9th grade will enable them to participate in larger science fairs with the chance to go on to college.

President Obama recently urged the need to focus on math and science education.

Our country is falling behind and students are missing essential skills in science. Science fairs are one way students can gain insight into experimental science and develop those skills they need. Please help by donating a simple gift of a presentation board so that all students, regardless of their income level, can participate in our schools first science fair.
