Seeing Ourselves in our Reading

Help me give my students books that allow them to seem themselves and teach them about different cultures, respect, body positivity, self-love and kindness.

My Students

The students at our school are located in Northeastern Nash County North Carolina. Although we are a low preforming school our students are creative and outgoing. The students are in a low-income rural area of North Carolina. Our school has amazing support from our families and participation in activities often exceeds expectations. Our students are special because they have awesome ideas and dreams that amaze us as their educators. We teach our students to dream big and to excel at all they put their minds to.

My Project

These books will provide students the opportunity to see themselves in the books and will reinforce how to be kind to others who don't look like them as well as how to be an ally to their peers. With the current culture climate we are in, students need more materials that reflect who they are, and these books will allow them to read stories that are similar to their own experiences. Students will be able to check out books to take home and to discuss what they have learned from these books with their teachers, family members and friends.
