My Students

My second graders come from all over the world. They each bring their own unique talents and experiences to the classroom, and are incredibly excited about learning.

They are full of energy and enthusiasm and are beginning to come together to support one another!

They are passionate and love learning! As we read stories they are constantly examining the illustrations and making observations that they are eager to share with one another. They are always asking questions, wondering why things work the way they do, or how things come about. They love working together with one another, and encouraging each other to become leaders!

My Project

Our class is centered around ideas of leadership, and what we call the Power of 5. The Power of 5 governs our class, and calls on students to be respectful, responsible, peaceful, safe and problem-solvers. We started off the school year by deciding what the Power of 5 would look like in our own classroom during different parts of our day. We took pictures of ourselves and hung them outside of our classroom for others to see. And while this was an amazing opportunity for us to teach ourselves what it looks like to be respectful, safe, peaceful, and responsible problem-solvers, the more we learn, and the more we spend time with each other, the more we find ways to live out the Power of 5 every day!

I am a true believer in the power of encouragement and environmental print.

Right now we don't have access to a photo printer, and so what gets hung up on the walls are black and white pictures on copy paper. It just doesn't do service to the amazing skills that I see my students exhibiting and recognizing in one another every day. A photo printer would help celebrate the character traits in my kiddos, and encourage others to follow their lead! The more my little leaders see themselves following the Power of 5, the more they will be apt to do it, and encourage one another to continue living it out. The principles in the Power of 5 are not only important inside of our classroom, but will provide my students with the soft skills that they need to continue through life and become leaders in our society.
