Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students live in a tech driven society with minimal access to 21st century tools. I aim to alter this reality and turn our media center into a model for using technology in fun and engaging ways. I would like to order media players to bring the outside world into our school library.

We are a campus library that serves three unique schools in New York.

Our school library serves Title I schools with over 80% of the student population qualifying for free and reduced lunch. My students are inquisitive and eager 6th-12th graders that come from a community that has severe socioeconomic challenges. While we live in a digital age, my students do not have access to or experience with technology.

My Project

There is so much to learn from the outside world and we plan to bring the world into our library/classroom. We'll use the amazon fire TV, Google Chromecast media player and HDMI cord to stream content from Vimeo, YouTube and other content providers. Streaming media content will provide a richer and more detailed learning experience for our students.

So many times when teaching about events and theories our students have never seen or experienced it is difficult to understand and fully grasp the content.

We see streaming media players as a way to bring the unknown and unseen into our library. It's been said that "seeing is believing", and we want to capitalize on this idea.
