My Students

Too often we hear from students, "I'm just not good at Science." Imagine how that could change if you see your own work being used as an example for the entire class. Imagine being asked to explain your process and defend your answers. This is what can be possible with a document camera.

My students come from all over our city (over 80 different middle/elementary schools) and help create a diverse and accepting school environment.

85% of students quality for free/reduced price lunch. These students love learning about science and investigating the hows and whys of the living world. Still, some of them lack confidence in this subject area. They need to see themselves and their peers as scientists and be able to show off their own work.

My Project

Document cameras are a great way to remove the teacher from the center of the classroom and replace her with the students. Rather than the teacher stepping through solutions, or providing examples, she can easy grab a student's work and show off what they are doing well. Students can show the steps they used to solve a problem. They can develop metacognitive skills by explaining how they are approaching complex problems. Document cameras provide a vast array of possibilities in the classroom. Students can easily present scientific results for peer review. They can defend their positions while citing and sharing evidence with the class. These cameras are also perfect for modeling cuts in dissections. Again, this can make student work the center, and example, for the class.

By having a document camera in class, students will be able to show off their work in class, develop metacognitive and literacy skills, and grow in their confidence in Science.

This piece of technology will allow students to become the center of their own learning.
