My Project

It has been a joy teaching my students this year, and thanks to the donations that I received for my first DonorsChoose project, I was able to set up an organized classroom that supports my second graders well. Now my school has launched its annual Project-Based Learning project, which involves all the students at our school moving to different groups, so once a week I am teaching a class of students ranging from pre-schoolers to second graders, including the kindergarten autism class.

To meet the needs of this diverse group of learners, I am requesting materials that will foster hands-on learning, creativity, and sensory engagement.

Tools like dry erase pocket sleeves and mesh zipper pouch bags will allow us to stay organized while keeping activities reusable and accessible for all ages. Mini loop scissors and plastic art trays will make craft and motor skill activities manageable for even the youngest learners. For play-based learning, I’m requesting items like a color shape sorting matching game, cutting play food toys, and a wooden bead sequencing set. These materials will help students practice critical skills such as sorting, sequencing, and fine motor development in a fun and engaging way.

Additionally, I’d like to incorporate sensory materials to support students who need calming or stimulating tools to focus and self-regulate. Sensory bean bags, therapy putty, and sensory fidget tubes will provide tactile experiences that help regulate emotions and improve concentration. Pin art will be another hands-on, calming tool for curious minds. By creating a classroom environment rich in sensory and interactive materials, I can better support diverse learners and prepare for my future goal of teaching in a self-contained classroom.
