Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach 9-12 grade mathematics in a high-need, low-income community that focuses on English language instruction.

My students are preparing for high stakes mathematics tests that are required for graduation. Many of them are English language learners who come from low-income families and spend much time outside of school on their work in order to obtain mastery of skills. In class, I teach mathematics with the help of many different technologies, especially graphing calculators. However, it is difficult to have students complete certain assignments for homework due to the need of a graphing calculator. My students do not have the resources to purchase a calculator on their own and they continually ask if they can bring a calculator home to practice their mathematics. Because of the risk of losing calculators there is a policy of not allowing students to bring them home. It would be great to have graphing calculators that students can sign out and bring home to work on mathematics.

I am asking for 5 graphing calculators that will be the first in hopefully a set of many that students can sign out and take home. This will allow students to become more comfortable using technology to help them reach more success in mathematics.

Your help will ensure that my students can keep up with the many students who take the same standardized test but have the resources of graphing calculators at home. You can help increase their chances of finding success in their tests to help them graduate high school. I know that many of my students will be grateful if they could bring a calculator home to help them with their homework.
