Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students live in Holyoke, MA. Many of my students are from low income and poverty households. Recently we have received many students form Puerto Rico due to the hurricane. Our school was taken over by the state two years ago because of poor student performance. Many of our students come to school excited and ready to learn. It is hard to teach science without science equipment, though.

I want to provide the best learning environment for my students and really want to provide an avenue for careers in science.

My Project

My students do not have enough hands on science supplies to make 5th grade science exciting and enriching. Science needs to be hands on and visual to "hook" students early on in the elementary grades to encourage them to take science classes in Middle and High School. Research has found that students who have a solid foundation in their early years will continue to engage in science throughout their school years and may go into science as a career.

By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.

I truly believe by placing the right tools in the hands of my students their understanding of the science concepts will be more concrete. We need the Snap Circuit Light Studio that will provide many hours and lessons of the hands-on learning my students need to succeed in understanding the concept of Light. Having safety glasses are a necessity to any successful experiment. The Prisms will provide a great visual of how white light is made of all the colors in the rainbow-

the visual light spectrum. Students will be able to apply the knowledge they learn through testing and other applications and foster a true love of science!
