PS116Q, The William C. Hughley School, is located in an impoverished area of Jamaica Queens. The population of 700 students rarely has an opportunity to publish movies using QuickTime or Windows media player. The students in the Tech Club, ages 7-10, will have the opportunity to do small projects using the equipment. We have one Sony 1.3 megapixel digital camera for all of the classes to share. I would very much like to bring my students into the 21st century and give them another perspective on the job market in technology. These students could learn camera techniques and how to import and export their pictures. We would like to include our pictures for our book talks like a Reading Rainbow program for the lower grade children. A quality presentation could be shown to their peers in the upper grades and the development explained in the children's own words. I would also like to teach them how to make a PowerPoint presentation which could be shown at the Parent Teacher Association meeting in June and our digital pictures could then be showcased. The children need to know that using a computer to capture their pictures for display is enhancing their creativity, as well as allowing them to have some fun. A finished product will boost their self-esteem and force them to add vocabulary into the powerpoint presentation. We would like to get as many children involved as possible and create a powerpoint presentation that we can show off to the community.
