My Project

Please help the students in my class with communication tools that will help them express their feelings and thoughts. Each one of my students has exceptionalities that limit their communication skills. Their non-verbal struggles are very real and are intensely frustrating for them. We use “sign language” - hands-on manipulative tools - and augmented assistive devices to assist their language development and social skills. The puzzles and boards allow hands-on discovery and curiosity. The emotion coins and alphabet letters that utilize the visual letter while also related visual for that sound will reinforce the “unspoken” in turn an “utterance of that letter sound” will follow in play and trial.

I have requested sensory resources that will allow the interactive essentials in the overall well-being for each child to express themselves safely and with confidence.

Using textural materials like the fidgets and textile mats help reinforce senses with such enthusiasm and unexpected rewards. Augmented devices allow them to touch the sounds with pictures that show “the need “ they can not speak. The weighted objects requested allow students to calm their frustrations and allow smooth transitions. We teach safety and emotions through visuals using “ facial emotions and song”. Both areas are extremely difficult for them to understand and make correlations.

I have requested larger signs with strong colors to help the student engage then question, allowing us to teach strategies to avoid dangers. The lizard fidgets are unique in their design similar to the railroad board. These allow mobility using their fingers which inspires “discovery using the same fingers they sign with” to create, entertaining their minds into self awareness of new possibilities. This brings confidence for them to trust. Trust that leads to growth. Growth that leads to confidence in self and their continuous learning world.
