34 students--ready to learn and yet hindered daily because of our lack of resources. I teach 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade special education English to low-income urban students with varying learning disabilities. We are located in a small corner room of a poorly funded charter school with a unique focus on maritime studies.

Even though many people believe students in special education aren't able to succeed in school, I see my students defying these prejudices and accomplishing amazing things. In fact, almost all of my students intend to attend college despite their added learning difficulties. As I try to provide the best education I can, my students daily ask for technology in our classroom. They would love to look at websites, view educational clips, and create their own multimedia presentations to share with their class. Unfortunately, they are not able to view anything beyond writing on a white board. The only technology in our classroom is one desktop computer that is provided for me to enter grades.

We need an LCD projector so that we can daily bring in media, technology, and creative multimedia images. This will expand the students potential to interact with their world and think in a more complex and well-rounded manner. They will also develop understanding, skills, and feel more comfortable with technology. My students will be excited to walk into the room and learn with technology.

If you fund this project, you will be helping young motivated special-needs low-income students have the opportunity to interact with technology and gain knowledge that will help them be successful in our world. Please take my students out of their present situation that cuts them short of their potential. Make the choice to believe that special education students can achieve great things when someone believes in them and gives them the resources for success. Help us add more technology to our classroom and give to our students.
