This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work in a very large urban school. I service students Pre-K through 8th. Many of my students face the struggles of surviving in a major city - violence, poverty, and lack of resources. They are exposed to trauma on a daily basis.
I seek to provide them with an environment where they always feel supported and encouraged to strive for their very best.
Additionally, many of my students come from homes where Spanish is the primary language. Not only do they have to learn basic academic skills, they're also learning English.
The demands of home and school life combined with the effects of COVID-19 are often overwhelming. My students need to learn how to just be kids!
My Project
Students are constantly plagued by negative images on social media and TV. They are told that school is hard and current conditions are not the best for learning. Many of my students have a negative mindset and lack self-confidence.
I seek to create an environment where students are surrounded (literally) by positive phrases.
I will display curtains and wall clings with inspirational phrases all around the room. Students will always see a positive message. They will be provided with visuals that remind them how amazing they truly are! By creating this environment, they will realize that there are people who care and believe in them. These items will help create a healthy mindset and allow my scholars to work towards success not just this school year but far into the future! If they constantly see inspirational phrases, they will begin to believe it!
