My Students

Our elementary STEAM students love visiting our STEAM class every week for 60 minutes. It is the perfect space for hands-on learning that integrates science, technology, engineering, arts, and math.

We start our class reconnecting with one another, learning about the day's challenge/activity and expectations, and participating in a conversation that aims to inspire teams.

Once students have learned about the day's challenge, they form teams and start brainstorming solutions. Using materials available in our room they work through the Engineering Design Process to work out their solution.

My Project

My Kindergarten through 5th grade students use a variety of resources when planning for and executing their Engineering Design projects. They use these resources to create prototypes that tackle real-world challenges.

Student teams will plan their project, create a supply list that fits within the confines of their budget, and shop for supplies.

Each item that is available to use for the challenge will have a price. When students shop for materials, they will become better managers of their materials and resourceful when designing their prototype. Teams monitor their budgets and make adjustments to their project as the challenge unfolds. They report out their end results (including financials) when the challenge is over.

The assortment of tapes, screws, and drills will assist with this process and become a part of the majority of our engineering design challenges throughout the year.
