This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
If you've been to a supermarket recently, you know the cost of feeding a family has become increasingly difficult. Now imagine the challenge of having a nearby supermarket shut down. This is the experience for several of our families.
Food insecurity is not just the inability to purchase food.
It's the lack of access to grocery stores. Countless articles and studies havebeen published about the impact of poor nutrition and hunger on developing minds and bodies. A locked cabinet will serve as a pantry, housing shelf-stable foods for students. By providing these items, students can supplement their diets with healthy options., without worrying about contamination from rodents and other pests, theft, or other challenges.
For our youngest scholars, this helps give them a fighting chance.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
