My Students

I am a 6th grade ELA teacher at a great school in Brooklyn. We work with a diverse population of really motivated kids who have risen to the unique challenge of remote learning in the middle of the pandemic. I'm always impressed with their ability to make the best of these tough situations!

My Project

I am requesting a second monitor screen which will allow me to teach my remote classes much more easily. I will be able to simultaneously view my presented slides AND always keep an eye on our video calls. It's difficult to run a virtual class when the majority of my time is not even spent in the video call with everyone because I have to keep flipping around different slides. From a supervision standpoint, this also makes the experience frustrating. I want to be able to give my students my full attention all the time and not always just be focused on my lesson materials.

We spend a lot of time in our class playing games like Kahoot!

and interactive discussions on Google Slides. Unfortunately, because those platforms require my attention for the majority of the time, I'm usually just focused on those tabs instead of on my class and the kids' faces.

This would enhance my teaching experience and their learning experience immensely because I would be able to transition much more smoothly and make better efficient use of our time together.
