Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Be the change you want to see in a child's life. My students look forward to learning and participating in activities and projects. Some students are unable to bring in necessary supplies they need in order to complete literacy and writing tasks such as photos for non fiction books.

My second graders are absolutely determined to rise above their environment in NY and what statistics says about them.

They are bright, energetic and enthusiastic to learn and thrive in all areas. For some of them, the brightest part of their day is in the classroom where they are able to be themselves. They can laugh, feel safe and express themselves through writing, art, etc. Many of my students do not leave the immediate surroundings in which they live. The only way to experience the world is through the joy of reading books on different genres. In second grade, we study various genres and students learn how to respond to literature and make real life connections to the world around them using literature as a focal point. We use literature to explore and learn about nonfiction topics. Students have the opportunity to look at pictures of rural communities and are able to use illustrations to travel to other communities through a book.

My Project

It is often challenging to provide students with individual texts on every topic that is covered in the curriculum due to lack of funds and/or lack of materials being available. Having a color printer would allow us to make copies, print color photos and scan individual pictures so that students would have access to resources on the topics of study. Students would have on the spot access to resources that would enhance lessons and activities. We could print color pictures of animals and places to include in our nonfiction books on animals, communities, etc. Students would be able to see their hard work come alive before their eyes and they can feel proud of their work. Pictures say 1000 words.

This multifunction photo printer would change so many of my students' lives and build self esteem and self worth.

They would be able to hold their heads up high knowing that in the classroom we are all one! They could look at their finished projects and be proud to share with family and friends their success
