My Project

A calming sensory space in my classroom provides a designated area where students can go to self-regulate and manage overwhelming emotions. For some students who might feel anxious or stressed, this space offers a quiet environment with soft lighting, soothing sounds, and tactile objects to help them calm down. This creates a sense of security and helps them regain focus, reducing disruptions in the classroom.

By having a sensory space available, students can learn to recognize when they are feeling overstimulated and take the initiative to go to the space before their emotions escalate.

This promotes emotional self-awareness and helps them develop coping strategies that will be beneficial both in and out of the classroom. It encourages independence and emotional intelligence, key skills for their personal development.

Additionally, the sensory space supports different learning styles and needs, especially for children with sensory processing challenges, ADHD, or autism. It provides sensory experiences that can help them concentrate, feel less anxious, and engage more fully with their lessons. Overall, this space fosters a positive learning environment where all students can thrive emotionally and academically.
