The students at my school are absolutely amazing. Many of them come from homes with limited resources but are very excited to come to school and learn. I am reminded daily of their appreciation for new things in the classroom. Small incentives such as earning a Popsicle or fancy pencil really motivate them.
My students enjoy reading and writing but have limited resources available to them outside the school walls and often times have to share with multiple siblings.
I try my best to make sure all of my students have their own set of supplies and their own personal space in order for them to do their best work and to help them grow as an individual as well as learning to work together as a classroom family.
As a teacher, my job is to not just teach the subjects. I feel my job is to help students find their strengths and teach them to use those strengths in their learning. I also feel my job is to help each one find success in something. Whether it is reading or writing, being creative, or expressing themselves through math and science, ALL children can be successful in some way!
My Project
Having these new seating options in my classroom each student can choose the best possible place where they can feel comfortable and ready to learn.
Whether it is sitting on a floor pillow, lounging on a rug with a lap desk, or sitting on a wobble stool at a table, students can nurture their learning style by choosing a comfortable place to work.
Who wants to sit all day in a hard chair! Give them an option!
By giving them flexible seating in the classroom, students each day will choose what place they will do their work at for the day. Imagine how great it would be to curl up on a bean bag, wiggle on a wobbly stool, or stretch out on a rug with a floor chair and get busy on their work. Not everyone learns the same way! Lets give students options and a choice to where they can do their best!
