My Students

As a teacher in a Title 1 district, my students come from several diverse backgrounds. Living in a small town with with only one school district means that my student's socioeconomic backgrounds range from very low income to very high income. This makes it a little more challenging to meet everyone's needs.

I use positive reinforcement in my classroom in order to focus on the good things my students are doing.

Although some of my students may be extremely different from one another, they are able to show respect for each other when they enter our room.

I want school to be a place where every student feels safe and equally valued no matter what their life at home may be like.

I always tell my students that we are a family and we have to care for one another. When I see them forming new relationships with peers, doing the right thing in difficult situations, or even just helping a neighbor out on a difficult math problem, it makes me proud to be their teacher.

My Project

I will be using the wobble stools, wiggle seat cushions, and bean bags as flexible seating options in my classroom. The stools and cushions will be used at desks throughout the day, and the bean bag chairs will be used during centers. Every student has different needs, and with these seating options I will be able to maximize focus among my students.

My students participate in many cooperative learning activities.

Many of these activities require sticky notes for quick responses. I will use the sticky notes to carry out those types of activities.

My third graders have also just started learning multiplication, and will soon learn fractions. The games and manipulatives that I have chosen will assist students in mastering new math skills. These materials will also benefit those students who learn more with a hands on approach.
