Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are in a 4th and 5th grade self-contained special education class. The class has 12 students and allows me to have more one-on-one time to meet their specific needs. We are located in Washington Heights where most of my students receive free or reduced rate lunch.

The vision at our school is that all members of the school community will be treated with equality, dignity, and respect.

We must engage students actively in the learning process while they are working to achieve their full potential as competent, respectful, socially responsible citizens. We must facilitate academic excellence by enabling all students to attain maximum academic achievement. Having a classroom that has many outlets and resources to reach their full potential is the key for success!

My Project

Have you ever had trouble sitting still during a meeting? Do you do better work when you have the ability to choose the right seat or environment to do your work in? I want to create a space and have the materials for all of my students to feel successful and focus more on what is happening in class then what is holding them back to focus and learn. The students will be able to use the flexible seating and sensory tools during all the lessons in the classroom. Having choice of seating and having seating that allows movement will help ALL of my students. All of these amazing items will be used daily and be able to help my students feel comfortable in their new environment and have the tools to be successful! The small adjustments to the current classroom will make all of the difference from your generosity!
