We are a second grade classroom of kids who love to read but can sometime use a little boost. Our school places a high value on reading and literacy.

Many of the students do not have a special place to read or a good book at home. Even so, our kids really enjoy being introduced to new titles. They like to borrow the book I use for a new read aloud when I am done reading it to the class.

Having beanbags for reading around the room will help encourage students to read independently or with a buddy. Right now they sometimes will chose another activity before picking a good book for center work. I hope to change that with comfy places to sit. Also, the books on CD will help me with my struggling readers who can't yet enjoy a book on their own if it has more than a few words on a page. They will be encouraged to use "their" CD player and enjoy a book while following along on CD.

Funding this project will make a big difference in the lives of 25 great kids! I love my job, but it is hard to do sometimes without extras to hook kids on reading-a skill which will effect their entire lives.
