Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I plan to use these flexible seating options to improve comfort and also allow my students who struggle with traditional seating to stay focused and engaged while supporting their diverse learning styles. When students are allowed a choice in where and how they sit their sense of autonomy is enhanced by fostering independence and ownership of their learning environment. Comfortable seating also reduces physical discomfort, which sometimes can detract from their ability to focus and participate.

The goal of this project is to increase engagement and create an environment where students feel motivated to participate actively.

Also, to promote equity by ensuring every student, including those with sensory, physical, or attention needs, has a setup that supports their success when given the right tools. Additionally, flexible seating can cultivate a sense of belonging as the classroom can become a welcoming space where they feel comfortable and supported.

What makes my students special is that they come from varied backgrounds and possess unique strengths and challenges. Most of my students have sensory needs and prefer a more active learning environment. Therefore, flexible seating can increase my students' curiosity, determination, and desire to succeed when given the right tools. It can allow them to thrive in an environment that sparks imagination in a space that is tailored to their needs.
