Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My wonderful second grade students are in an urban district that is the largest and one of the oldest school systems in New Jersey. This is my first year teaching in this school. While setting up my room in the summer, an older student introduced himself to me. He said, "one of the best things about our school is that we are like a family."

My students and I have created a mutually respectful environment where students are comfortable taking chances, support each other and enjoy being part of this class.

Our key word for the year is "inspiration". We have had many discussions around this word. I told them they have inspired me to set up the project for them! They deserve it!

My Project

Children need to easily access their books and learning tools. Students need books readily available that they can read on their individual level as well as books for enjoyment. They also need storage for all of their additional learning materials.

These seat sacks will provide my students with easy access to their important materials such as their independent reading books, math materials, dry erase boards and markers, and other important items as well.

Students are often asked to bring their chair with them to sit in various places around the room to work in small groups. When they do this, they will still have their important learning resources on hand.
