My Students

My students are warriors.

They live in a community with staggering poverty rates and many do not have the greatest home life.

Despite all of the hardships they've faced in their young lives they come to school every day ready and willing to learn. It is my personal mission to make my classroom a second home for them where they can receive the love, care, and support that they need to blossom and grow as learners but more importantly as people. They do all of this virtually!

The system has stacked the odds against these children, many are multiple grade levels behind academically but are still expected to perform on grade level. The pressure that they face is palpable but they are incredibly strong and resilient. I have been absolutely blown away by their grit and determination to do their best day in and day out. The progress and growth they make are astounding and I am blessed to be able to teach such an amazing group of students.

My Project

These materials will enhance students' learning as they will have a safe and secure place to store their belongings in our classroom. In our seat sacks we will be able to store our notebooks, pencil boxes, snacks and writing tools. Currently, we are using old pillow cases that are starting to fray and tear. Upgrading to these durable sacks will make sure that they survive the school year and beyond. I'm looking forward to being able to use these for many school years to come. My students will be very grateful.
