My Students

As a teacher working in a high poverty area, my students are constantly faced with many challenges both in and out of the classroom. They are subjected to many high risk obstacles that can bring many emotions. Despite their many challenges, I am trying to provide my students with a safe and welcoming space. A space where they are free to learn, grow, create and imagine.

My students have the potential to be creators, inventors and much more.

The students all receive free lunch based on the socioeconomic standings of this city. The school has about eight hundred students and of those students, most come from single parent households, poverty and/or shelter homes. Such difficulties may prevent them from getting ahead in life and progressing to their full potential. Entering my classroom, I focus on who they are and not their challenges. From the moment they walk into the room until the moment they leave, I want to create a positive room that inspires the students to grow, excel and imagine.

My Project

This donation of seat sacks would be beneficial in organizational skills. The students desks are small in size and do not fit all of the given materials.

I have found many of my students sitting on top of their books because they do not fit inside of their desks.

This becomes an unsafe environment! Having a big class size does not allow extra space in the classroom to store their books and belongings. There are many pockets on the seat sack which holds pencils, books, folders, and ActiveExpressions. This resource would be prefect for the students in my classroom and the teacher!
