Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Kindergarten, in my opinion, is the best grade ever! Students are taking the big step from transitioning from a play-based day to a work-based day. Some students come into Kindergarten ready to start reading and writing independently, while others may come into Kindergarten ready to identify letters and learn letter sounds.

I make sure that the students in my class feel welcomed, included, and safe.

My students come from an urban background where they may not have access to all the bells and whistles that other kids may have access to. It is my job to make sure that my students have access to the best education possible.

My Inclusion class is composed of 22 Kindergarten General Ed students, English Language Learners, and Students with Disabilities. Some teachers may not like having this broad mix of students, but I personally love it. I love watching them interact and learn from one another. They teach each other important life, social emotional, and academic skills and do not even realize it. I believe that I can thank my students for becoming the teacher I am today.

My Project

Before Covid, things were so different in my Kindergarten classroom. Students were able to use the computers that we kept in a charging cart, they were able to share things, they were able to keep their materials together. Now, it is all different. Instead of tables, we are at desks. Instead of sharing, we all have our own supplies. Instead of using the school's computer, students must bring their computers back and forth from home to school.

It is a lot for my Kindergarten students to bring their computer back and forth; then to go to their lockers to get/put them back.

The seat sacks would help the students keep their computers right behind their seats. We will not have to go back and forth to the locker room to get/put them away, losing valuable instructional. I believe the seat sacks will help the students be more organized and independent.
