Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach a group of first graders who love learning and going to school. If you were to ask my students what their favorite subject is, you would get a wide range of answers including math, reading, social studies, science, and art. They are excited to develop their literacy skills.

Our school is very small but diverse.

Most of my students are from low socioeconomic backgrounds. Our school is a Title I school. Most of my first graders are limited English proficient. My students enjoy learning and have done well with learning the common core curriculum.

My first graders have tables instead of desks. This makes organization and cleaning tricky! My students have been making do with plastic bins on the tables. Unfortunately, the containers take up too much space, and they tip over when books are added. Seat sacks are large pouches that fit over the back of each chair. The Lakeshore seat sacks are durable and even have places for school supplies! My students will have more space to work, and they will also learn critical organizational skills. With your generous donation, every student in my class will be able to have a whiteboard, textbooks, a folder, counters, and journals available to them in their individual seat sacks. This will lessen transitional time because they will have their materials easily accessible to them.
