Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a co-teaching setting in an elementary school in Brooklyn, NY. My third graders are creative and enthusiastic about learning. They strive to be leaders at school, home, and their community. I enjoy seeing my students support and encourage one another when faced with challenging tasks. We work together as a team and a community. They enjoy hands-on, interactive tasks and are always full of inquisitive questions. My students come from diverse backgrounds. I enjoy seeing a group of mixed abilities, interests, and goals.

My Project

My students have a difficult time organizing their classroom materials and supplies in their small desks. The seat sacks will allow them to better organize their materials which will also allow them to learn organizational skills. Additionally, it will allow students to take charge of their learning. I’ve noticed that my students are more productive when their materials and supplies are organized and easily attainable. It also provides for greater independence when completing tasks. Making sure students are organized and comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. When students are organized and can easily find their materials, they tend to be more engaged and get more work done.
