Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

A typical day in my Visual Arts classroom starts with a daily introduction and practice with new vocabulary words and concepts. The students love to get time to create and learn how to develop their drawing and artistic skills, however they struggle the most with acquiring the new vocabulary.

My students are predominantly Hispanic with a keen interest and skill in expressing themselves.

They are generally extremely visually expressive and use the visual imagery they develop to tell their story. They reside in a very low income community, so they struggle financially, and in turn they do not have as much access to art resources, and do not get the opportunity to make artwork as often as a student from a more affluent community.

My Project

My students are very excited to receive clay, Sharpies, pottery tool sets and erasers so they can finally get the opportunity to make three dimensional artwork. After they will also get the chance to work on their rendering skills by drawing their own sculptures created.

This project will make a tremendous difference in my classroom, because for years my students have been requesting sculpture materials, however we have been lacking the funds to make this happen.

So now we can satisfy the students needs and dreams and engage them in a way they have been craving. The more experiences and opportunities my students encounter the better prepared they will be artistically to express them selves in three dimensions.
