My Project

Good actors, directors, and designers are good readers! They understand how to analyze a text, research, infer, visualize, and interpret. My students are required to read new plays every term to broaden their exposure, deepen their literacy, and practice specific theatrical pre-production skills. It's so much more fun and valuable for them if we have multiple copies of a script so they can read the parts aloud with each other on their feet instead of silently, independently, and in their seats.

Help my students get access to engaging scripts they can work with collaboratively in theatre class.

These aren't scripts we will use for performance. This is workshopping and study material to practice skills in script analysis, design, and cold-read audition techniques. It's relatively difficult and expensive to get classroom sets of play scripts compared to traditional novels and it's even more important to have multiple copies of these texts because they are meant to be read aloud together. My students have a lot of exposure to musicals, but they need more exposure to plays. Plays offer greater opportunities to develop acting skills, more reachable opportunities for beginning designers, deeper opportunities for beginning directors, and reinforce bedrock literacy skills with creative and collaborative engagement.
