Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students love technology and want to find as many ways as possible to incorporate it into their schoolwork. Using a tablet can be a fun and creative way to explore the very serious topic of bullying.
My students are amazing fifth graders, who deserve the very best!
They are fun, energetic and creative, and I love to showcase their spectacular talents. The school I teach at is considered "high poverty," so students do not have the same opportunities as those in other neighborhoods. Everyone qualifies for free lunch in the Title 1 program. Our neighborhood is not very diverse in race and background, so my students have difficulty understanding those that are different than they are. I fear this insensitivity and lack of acceptance will lead to bullying behavior.
My Project
The book "Bullying in Schools" will inform my students on this important topic. They will learn what bullying is, what it looks like, and what they need to do to be safe. The tablet will give my students the opportunity to capture images and video around our school that show respect, friendship, teamwork, and many other positive situations. I intend to assist them in taking that captured material and creating public service announcements and videos that illustrate the dangers of bullying. The blank DVDs will be used to distribute the student films around our school.
All children need to feel respected, valued, and safe.
We must spread the word! My students' films will deliver a strong message that there is no place for bullying at our school! I believe this message coincides with the vision of Townsend Press in eradicating bullying in our schools. Thank you for your support!
