This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a visual arts teacher, when you find a project that harnesses 100% engagement by the students, it is a win-win. From the moment I introduced scratchboard art to my students years ago I realized how exciting the project, process, and results are to them.

My students are high school students in a low-income urban environment.

They love creating art in many forms, and thrive creating visual art as well. The students have a very expressive culture. The school consists of a majority of English Language Learners.

My Project

My students will now be able to participate in one of their favorite visual arts projects - scratchboard. The materials (scratchboards, paper, and scratch knives) require a high level of focus, and high motor skills and control. If you push or scratch the surface too hard, the paper will tear. It is an extremely engaging project for the students, and they will learn how to control the tools and materials and improve their dexterity, further developing their fine motor skills in the arts and beyond.

This specific donation to the classroom will improve student participation in the classroom.

The reward factor for the students is elevated due to the shiny gold and silver scratchboard creations they will now get to make with the supplies.
