Help Mrs. Larson

I teach 7th grade reading in a low economic area. Our students come to us from military families, farming communities, cranberry marsh growers, and other walks of life. We have a large percentage of special needs students and a large population of free and reduced lunch candidates.

Throughout the year, my students engage in poem creation, journaling, community service projects, school related fund raising, career choices, and goal setting. Even though the activities are related, there isn't always a connection. It is my goal to enable the students to create a scrapbook style journal of their middle school experience. This will ensure a tie-in as students will be creating their own memories through written and pictorial pages. Parents will also value this scrapbook as they will see the work and activities that their child has engaged in during the year.

I need 125 journal style books and scrapbooking supplies. I have included scissors, felt, beads, etc. that the students can use to decorate their pages. This will allow students to be creative and to spend time making a memory that will last.

Your help with this project will ensure that the students will be able to keep their own written and pictorial memory of middle school. It will make a difference as my students need opportunities to explore their creativity and relate it to their own personal life. I believe it will allow students to see the value in writing and reading.
