My Students

A wise friend and teacher once told me that "our children will never again be Scout's age after this year in fifth grade", we both teach advanced learners and I was debating the choice of teaching this novel. He convinced me and I hope his words convince you too!

My school is located in a large urban school district that struggles to maintain reading scores and help children achieve.

My classroom is part of an Advanced Studies Program that targets the learners who are already achievers and provides an enriched, fast paced, differentiated curriculum that introduces learners to units of study with depth and complexity.

My Project

I really did have that conversation with a colleague and I am convinced that I can continue to grow as an instructor by trying new things and keeping an open mind to new approaches. I want to delve deeply into To Kill A Mockingbird, I have acquired backup resources and planned a rich unit of study. All I need now are the books for each learner to hold in their hands.

Funds for school materials are at an all time low, when schools do have monies to spend they are putting the funds toward remedial programs and interventions for our learners who need it most.

Funding for Gifted and Talented programs has nearly dried up, I would like these funds to enrich my GATE program for years to come.
