Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our School is a Title I school that enrolls 430 students. Our student population consists of 63% of our students being English Language Learners, 77% are at risk, and 80.5% of our enrolled students are economically disadvantaged. All 400 students come through my gym door every day for PE, and for that 25 minutes all is right in their world. As a physical education teacher, my main goal is to promote lifelong fitness habits among all students and show them innovative ways to achieve that goal.

My Project

The use of a multi sport scoreboard will give students a visual display of how they are performing in physical education. It has many aspects that will be beneficial to growing both their physical and cognitive abilities.

The score that is shown on a scoreboard is the numerical reward for achieving goals, which reflects success.

When students know the score, they are more likely to increase their level of play and competitiveness.

The use of the game clock will be a reminder of time management that will ignite urgency and passion, while regulating the pace of play. It will hold students accountable for how they spend their time and prioritize their decision making.
