My Project

Our Kindergarten students have fine motor and sensory needs that make it difficult for them to learn and function in school. Most of our students have sensory processing disorders and are mandated occupational therapy, but our occupational therapists do not have adequate tools and equipment to meet our students needs.

The goals for this project are for students to develop their upper body, grip, and core strength, and to receive the sensory input that they so desperately need to function.

The large tricycle allows for enhanced muscle strength, bilateral coordination, and postural stability. The scooter provides vestibular input, which is crucial for balance and coordination, through the movement of riding, while also engaging their proprioceptive system by allowing them to feel their body position in space, as they steer and pedal, ultimately helping to regulate their sensory input and potentially calming them down. The scooter ramp board allows a smooth transition from ramp to floor, and the wide platform enables a student to turn a scooter board completely around without getting off the board. The equipment will directly support our students' sensory needs and allow them to be successful in school.
